Greatest HL2 set piece or level

Which is the standout moment in HL2 for you? For me there are two, I guess. The first one is the Rvensholm level which gave me the chills first time around. Those leapers give me the heebie geebies. The second is the encounter with the Strider's outside the entrance to the Citadel. I remember cowering under the passageway in the road desperate for an opening to go reload the rocket launcher.

What stands out for you?

The very first time I played it. I picked up the can and threw it at the guard instead of the
trash can. That and instead of playing catch with DOG, I threw it all at Alyx .

The bridge in Highway 17.

That for me is the single most beautiful and awe-inspiring pieces of in-game scenery I have ever seen (although something tells me the cliff face in Black Mesa might outdo it if they do it as good as the rest of their mod).

It just gives you that feeling that you are against the environment as well as the enemy. You look down and you can see the massive emptiness beneath you and makes you really feel how small you are in comparison. The ambient music at this scene works really well to further enhance the scene.

The bridge in Highway 17.
Yes, that was a truly stunning section. In fact, Highway 17 in total was a great section.

That it was but the bridge was the crowning jewel, so to speak, of the whole scenic masterpiece.

When those rebels tore down the BreenCast moniter, symbolised humanitys freedom, also coupled with the wreckage and chaotic state that C17 was left in.

I agree with the bridge. That really stood out for me. Breathtaking views.
Another one that stood out for me was in EP1 when you're waiting for the lift to come, and then the flashlight inevitably runs out, and all you hear is the moans of zombies for company.

Pity that we've now had a "wait for the elevator" scene in both episodes now. If we have one in Ep3 I'll be pissed.

What'll piss me off is if you have to get on a train and then it crashes. I refuse to get on any more trains in half life 2.

Trains = Bad.

HL1: Train crashes during Apprehension.
HL2: Train delivers you to area where you would have ended up in Nova Prospekt.
HL2:Ep1: Train you are on is caught in exploding citadel's explosion.
HL2:Ep2: You trapped in a crashed train which, if Alyx didn't free you, would have been crushed beneath a... Yes, that's right: crushed under a train.

Exactly, I just wish that I could get on a train in the half life universe and maybe it wouldn't crash. Although, they probably run on time more often than the welsh rail system

Another good set piece: In EP2, when you have to defend the mine and Alyx from the antlions until the vortigaunts appear.
Also, did anyone bother sending the garden gnome into space?

HL1:You see the Gman for the first time on a triand and The Gman makes you the offer on a train.

Actually i reckon a good piece would've been the train ride in, now in HL2 it is quite short, but it was supposed to be round about 5 minutes in length and you would get a good glimpse of City 17 on the ride in and you could see other trains passing you by.

Yeah, Half-Life's train ride in instantly says to you "this isn't your normal FPS" and draws you in.

Was let down by HL2's train ride, but Gman scene kinda made up for it.

In HL2, right after you fight the helicopter in the hovercraft, you can see the GMAN walking off in the distance. Did anyone else see this?

You can see him at many points in all four games.

If I could be bothered I'd find the list that some of the guys at SPUF made...
