How do you feel about the delayed release?
Are you of the opinion that it is unfair for them to tell us that a game is due out by a particular time and then to not follow through with it, or are you of the opinion that it is better to release a bug free first version when it is ready rather than releaseing something with a few bugs that need to be fixed through updates?

That's very difficult, I think, for developers to simply not have a date (either target, or release). Gaming has become such a huge industry with such huge amounts of money changing hands that publishers have started to demand dates from the developers. I'm sure that all devs would rather say (when question on when the game will be ready): "When it's ready". It's the suits who force the announcement of dates and cause the critics to start howling, and who do they howl at? Devs.
Always blame 'The Man' because it's usually His fault. |

In their L4D preview the guys at Shacknews had this to say about the delays:
As can be expected, there is a significant amount of work left for Turtle Rock and Valve to do between now and late summer. Aaron and I only experienced two of the game's four overall scenarios, and we were told that the zombie-controlling side of the game was not yet ready to be shown. Load times need to be optimized, as switching from map to map resulted in a lengthy wait. Though the game ran smoothly with a large amount of zombies on-screen, it would occasionally slow to a crawl for no discernible reason. Its user-interface is very much a work-in-progress. - Chris Faylor Though the game is still very unfinished--animation and sound bugs, and the occasional curious gameplay quirk, pop up from time to time--the hardest work, building that memorable experience, is already done. - Aaron Linde |

Not too disappointed either, would rather have a finished game which is where so many developers go wrong and Valve are known for making finished game, so it's all good imo.
The only thing that got my back up is the way they went about it. We could have known alot sooner to avoid getting our hopes up, but I guess that's where the fans get sucked in and fuel the hype machine :/ |
